The MotherF**ker With the Hat is a new broadway show with Chris Rock

The name alone is enough to make me want to go see this show.  Chris Rock has been busy.  He's had his own television show, makes movies, produced a great documentary, and still finds time to do stand up.  And now he's on Broadway.  He will be joined on stage with Bobby Cannavale and Annabella Sciorra

About the show:  THE MOTHERF**KER WITH THE HAT is a new high-octane, verbal cage match about love, fidelity and misplaced haberdashery from playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis. Jackie and Veronica have been in love since the 8th grade. But now, Jackie is on parole and living clean and sober under the guidance of his sponsor, Ralph D, while still living with and loving his volatile soul mate Veronica who is fiercely loving, but far from sober. Still, their love is pure. And true. Nothing can come between them – except a hat.

Remake: Death at a Funeral (2010)

So now that Chris Rock has finally enjoyed some film success with the documentary Good Hair, he is now in the 'remake' business.  Rock is the producer and star of a new film, Death at a Funeral, which is a remake of the 2007 British comedy by Frank Oz.

Tagline:  This is one sad family.

Synopsis:  When a dysfunctional clan reuintes to mourn the passing of the family patriarch, a respectful funeral quickly turns into an all-out fiasco marked by bitter resentment, blackmail attempts, and scandalous revelations.

Review: Good Hair = A Good D--- movie!!

Even though I didn’t catch this movie right out of the gate,  I just had to go see it because of all the controversy surrounding this  documentary.  So I persuaded my friend to  come with me to check out the film despite the fact she’s not the biggest Chris Rock fan.

If you need a little background on the film, you can refer  to my earlier post.  I’m going to go  right in to my review.

I will start off with  what immediately happened following the film.   I noticed a couple sitting behind us who were leaving the theater.  And me being me, I’m always interested in  other people’s thoughts and opinions.  So  I decided to ask them what they thought of the film.   The guy stated that he thought it was well  “balanced”.  Hmmm….well balanced I  thought.  Now I didn’t ask him to  elaborate but based on what I thought he meant I would have to agree.  The movie provided the audience with a great mixture of the forces behind a woman’s hair in the black community.

Film: Good Hair

Good Hair is a movie that explores the way hairstyles impact the activities, pocketbooks, sexual relationships, and self-esteem of the black community. The idea for the movie came about when Chris Rock's daughter asked him "Daddy, how come I don't have good hair?"  Chris Rock visits beauty salons and barbershops as well as has candid interviews with celebrities such as Ice-T, Nia Long, Paul Mooney, Raven Symoné, Dr. Maya Angelou, Salt n Pepa, Eve and Reverend Al Sharpton.  It has opened to varying reviews which I would expect of any movie covering this topic.  However it did receive an award at the Sundance Film Festival.

It opened on October 9, 2009.  I had heard about this movie and didn't realize it was coming out so soon until I saw Chris Rock and Nia Long on 106 and Park last week.  I'm a huge Chris Rock fan so I'm sure the movie will make me laugh.  I might not catch this in the movie theatres but look out for my review when it comes to DVD.
