Netflix and Miramax Strike Multi-Year Streaming Deal

From the Hollywood Reporter.....

NEW YORK -- Netflix and Miramax on Monday unveiled a multi-year agreement, under which Netflix streaming members in the U.S. will get to access movies from the Miramax film library, including Pulp Fiction, Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient, Good Will Hunting, Bad Santa, Scream, Spy Kids, The Piano and Kill Bill.

The deal marks the first time that Miramax titles have become available through a digital subscription service.  Beginning next month, Netflix will have access to several hundred Miramax movies, with dozens of titles being added on a rotating basis, the companies said.  Financial terms weren't disclosed, and the companies didn't detail which movies will be available when.

The new Miramax team under CEO Mike Lang, a former News Corp. business development executive, has made digital a key focus.

"Netflix is thrilled to enter into this deal with the new team at Miramax," said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos. "Existing relationships with management and a shared affinity for these great films make this an important deal for both companies and for our members, who will enjoy instantly watching movies from one of the truly great film libraries for many years to come."

Watch NETFLIX instantly on your mobile phone

Today at the Microsoft MIX10 conference in Las Vegas, Microsoft introduced a new Netflix application for cell phones with the Windows 7 Series platform.  This will be the first application which offers the feature of watching Netflix movies and shows on a user's mobile phone.  If you already use Netflix as I do then you're familiar with its streaming capabilities on your PC or certain TV set-top boxes.  Mobile phone users can stream numerous entertainment programs from anywhere using wi-fi or the 3G network.

Just Me:  I always get nervous when I hear anything that has to do with Microsoft Windows but the Mix10 conference goers seem to be impressed with the new application.  For Netflix, this is a logical step in the right direction in giving consumers more ways to access the Netflix library.
