Film: Good Hair

Good Hair is a movie that explores the way hairstyles impact the activities, pocketbooks, sexual relationships, and self-esteem of the black community. The idea for the movie came about when Chris Rock's daughter asked him "Daddy, how come I don't have good hair?"  Chris Rock visits beauty salons and barbershops as well as has candid interviews with celebrities such as Ice-T, Nia Long, Paul Mooney, Raven Symoné, Dr. Maya Angelou, Salt n Pepa, Eve and Reverend Al Sharpton.  It has opened to varying reviews which I would expect of any movie covering this topic.  However it did receive an award at the Sundance Film Festival.

It opened on October 9, 2009.  I had heard about this movie and didn't realize it was coming out so soon until I saw Chris Rock and Nia Long on 106 and Park last week.  I'm a huge Chris Rock fan so I'm sure the movie will make me laugh.  I might not catch this in the movie theatres but look out for my review when it comes to DVD.
