Marlon Wayans will play Richard Pryor in new biopic

Richard Pryor:  Is It Something I Said?

Marlon Wayans
is scheduled to play Richard Pryor in the long-awaited film biopic of the comedian's life.  Adam Sandler will be producing the film under his Happy Madison production company at Sony Pictures.  Eddie Murphy was assumed to be taking on the role of Pryor but had creative differences with the powers-that-be over the direction of the project.  As the hunt was on for a new actor, writer and director of the film, Bill Condon, saw Wayans re-create a Pryor monologue at the audition and the deal was sealed.

Just me:  The news of Wayans playing Pryor in the film was met with some apprehension from many critics and movie-insiders who only know Wayans for his roles in White Chicks, Little Man, and Dance Flick.  But I was pretty excited when I heard the news.  I remember seeing Marlon Wayans in the extremely powerful film, Requiem For A Dream, years ago and was blown away.  Who is to say he can't do serious acting?  I was the first person to bust out laughing when Jim Carrey decided to turn to more serious roles like Man on the Moon.  But he ended up winning critical acclaim along with a Golden Globe Award for the movie.  Entertainers are multi-faceted.  At least the good ones are supposed to be.  So I think Mr. Wayans has it in him.  As a matter of fact, I know it.  He will have to dig deep though.  Alright M. Wayans, don't make me look stupid...
