THE SOCIAL NETWORK
a.k.a. THE FACEBOOK MOVIE
Tagline: You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies
Synopsis: On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history... but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications.
The movie stars Jesse Eisenberg (as Mark Zuckerberg) and Justin Timberlake. It was written by Aaron Sorkin and adapted from Ben Mezrich's 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal. None of the Facebook staff, including founder Mark Zuckerberg, will be involved with the project.
Just Me: I watched the trailer for this movie. It didn't excite me at all. But I'm wondering how that could be since I know this has to be such an interesting story. As soon as the trailer ended I thought to myself 'this reminds me of the the movie 21'. That's about the young guy who went to M.I.T. and began making tons of money hustling casinos in blackjack. And though that story sounds interesting too, the movie was not. And guess what? This movie has the same writer. So I'm not expecting much. But I will say I love the starring character Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland, Adventureland). And I'm interested in seeing what JT does. He actually did a good job to me in the movie Alpha Dog.
