Movies coming in August 2010
The Sicilian Girl (La siciliana ribelle)
Tagline: What would drive a seventeen-years-old girl to betray her family? And if that family was the mafia?
Synopsis: Inspired to a true story, on November 5th 1991, Rita Atria a young 17-year-old Sicilian girl, goes to see an anti-Mafia judge Paolo Borsellino to denounce the Mafia system that was responsible for the murder of her father and her brother. It is the first time that such a young woman from a Mafia family rebels and betrays the Mafia. From that moment on, Rita's days are numbered.
Just Me: I love mafia movies so this one is definitely on my list of a must-see. I'm also intrigued by how young the girl is and that this is based on a true story. Unfortunately, this movie is in limited release. So unless you live in a big city or have a great theater in your city that shows independent and limited released films, you might have to wait until this is on DVD.

Middle Men
Tagline: Money. Sex. Murder. Greed. Corruption.
Synopsis: In 1995, everyone had a VCR, music was sold in record stores, and the world-wide-web was a new found discovery. Businessman Jack Harris (Luke Wilson) had the perfect life a beautiful family and a successful career fixing problem companies. Then he met Wayne Beering (Giovanni Ribisi) and Buck Dolby (Gabriel Macht), two genius but troubled men, who had invented the way adult entertainment is sold over the internet. When Jack agrees to help steer their business, he soon finds himself caught between a 23 year-old porn star and the FBI all the while becoming one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs of his time. Witness a story so outrageous, you won't believe it's true. A story that proves business is a lot like sex getting in is easy, pulling out is hard.
Just Me: I initially just threw this in my list because the movie poster caught my eye. You have to admit it's pretty cool looking. But the story also sounds pretty interesting: The Internet + Business + Sex + Money. Need I say more.

A tight-knit group of New York City street dancers, including Luke (Malambri) and Natalie (Vinson), team up with NYU freshman Moose (Sevani), and find themselves pitted against the world's best hip hop dancers in a high-stakes showdown that will change their lives forever.
Just Me: I can't say that this teenie-bopper movie sparks my interest to the extent I would go see it. However, the idea of making a dance movie in 3D is awesome!

Eat Pray Love
Tagline: Let Yourself Go This August
Synopsis: Liz Gilbert (Roberts) had everything a modern woman is supposed to dream of having - a husband, a house, a successful career - yet like so many others, she found herself lost, confused, and searching for what she really wanted in life. Newly divorced and at a crossroads, Gilbert steps out of her comfort zone, risking everything to change her life, embarking on a journey around the world that becomes a quest for self-discovery. In her travels, she discovers the true pleasure of nourishment by eating in Italy; the power of prayer in India, and, finally and unexpectedly, the inner peace and balance of true love in Bali. Based upon the bestselling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert.
Just Me: Who doesn't like Julia Roberts? Ever since Pretty Woman, Roberts has captivated audiences when she comes on the screen. And I'm sure this movie will do no less than that. The fact that this movie is about a woman dropping everything and traveling around the world struck a chord with me. It's always something I've dreamed of doing. I will be taking notes when I watch this one.
