So now that Chris Rock has finally enjoyed some film success with the documentary Good Hair, he is now in the 'remake' business. Rock is the producer and star of a new film, Death at a Funeral, which is a remake of the 2007 British comedy by Frank Oz.
Tagline: This is one sad family.
Synopsis: When a dysfunctional clan reuintes to mourn the passing of the family patriarch, a respectful funeral quickly turns into an all-out fiasco marked by bitter resentment, blackmail attempts, and scandalous revelations.
Just me: Now I saw the original 2007 movie in theaters a couple of years ago and it was hilarious. It is going to be interesting to see this remake with a Black cast and an urban twist to it. Looking at the all-star cast, I'm going to take a chance and predict this film will be a hit. Some of the cast besides Chris Rock include Martin Lawrence, Avatar's Zoe Saldana, Danny Glover, Luke Wilson, and reprising his role from the original film is Peter Dinklage.
I can't say I've seen Chris Rock acting in a film that I've thoroughly enjoyed besides New Jack City and his one scene in I'm Gonna Get You Sucka. But considering his mass appeal and talent, I have hope. Surprisingly, this film is being remade very soon after its original release in theaters 3 years ago. Are the movies going to be like hip-hop now? Are movie actors and producers going to jump in and make 'remixes' of movies they like? The next thing you know there will be 3 different versions of the same movie out at one time.
Release Date: April 16, 2010
